Lowered in grade and lengthened in stride, Green Impact took full advantage of a return to calmer waters by making all in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Glencairn Stakes on June 5, suggesting he's very much back on course for sterner summer assignments — not least a tilt at the Irish Derby at The Curragh.

A Group Two scorer over course and distance last season — form given a gilt-edged polish with the runner-up that day now Derby favourite Ruling Court, also bound for Epsom. But back among Listed company, and dropped to 9 furlongs, he justified strong market as the 11-8 favourite.

Ridden positively from the gates by Shane Foley, the Marc Chan-owned son of Wootton Bassett dictated from the front, seeing off Azada with a controlled tempo before repelling the late thrust of Currawood, always doing enough to keep half a length to the good at the line.

“There was no obvious pace so we had to go on — he just dosses in front,” said Harrington, who now sets her sights firmly on The Curragh. “Shane said he was niggling him the whole way, but when the other one came to him, he found again. He keeps lengthening. It was good ground today, no yield in it — that’s just what he wants.”

A return to 12 furlongs now beckons, and pedigree backs the case: by Wootton Bassett but out of a Galileo mare, there’s every reason to believe stamina won’t be a stumbling block.

Paddy Power were quick to react, 16-1 now the price for the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby, while a possible tilt at Sandown’s Eclipse sees him quoted at 33-1.

As a confidence booster for team Harrington and perhaps a line of form for Epsom watchers to note, Green Impact’s Leopardstown raid could yet prove to be a smart dress rehearsal for bigger stages to come.
