One of the best novice chasers, Dynaste, of the season roared back from defeat at the Cheltenham Festival to slam a decent field that assembled for this Grade Two contest.

Jockey Tom Scudamore eased him alongside runner-up Third Intention running to the final fence and he quickened clear to win by six lengths, a far happier outcome for trainer David Pipe who was dejected following the grey’s defeat in the Betfair Chase and King George and we’ll take it from there.”

TIZZARDS LOOK TO NEXT SEASON WITH THIRD INTENTION

Owners Robert And Sarah Tizzard were delighted with 16/1 shot Third Intention after their horse lost nothing in defeat behind six length winner Dynaste in the John Smith’s Mildmay Novices’ Chase.

The six-year-old is still a novice over fences despite being placed in a host of big races this season but connections are convinced that three miles will be Third Intention’s trip next year.

“He’s run a really nice race but we’ve been beaten by a seriously good horse,” said Robert Tizzard, brother of trainer Colin.

“This looks to be his trip now as he travelled so well and we’ve beaten the rest by a long way.

“We’ll probably head to Punchestown now and the good thing about that race is that it takes place at the beginning of the new season so if he does win there, he’ll still have his novice status.”

Paul Nicholls, trainer of third-placed Rocky Creek, was delighted with the seven-year-old’s run.

He said: “As I suspected the ground and the track were a bit sharp for him. He needs a real galloping track and I’d love to have seen really soft ground. He’s a great jumper and he’s a stayer and his next run will probably be the Hennessy Gold Cup.

“He’s hopefully one to run in the National in the future. The winner [Dynaste] is a grand horse but I’m thrilled with my horse, he’s probably a bit of a baby still.”
